China Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) Authority Chairman Lt General (r) Asim Saleem Bajwa said that CPEC encourages joint ventures between Pakistan and foreign businesses.

He made these remarks while addressing the members at the Karachi Chambers of Commerce and Industry (KCCI) on Tuesday.

“The advise and suggestions by our industry and trade representatives is helpful,” Bajwa said. “We refer foreign investors to contact local industry to look at possibility of joint products.”

“Pakistan is ready to move forward and rebuild its economy after 40 years of war. China has been our partner and has fully supported us to fill gaps in our infrastructure. Gwadar’s support capacity is increasing and we are constantly working to fill in gaps in Karachi port’s infrastructure as well. When it comes to power projects we are focusing on hydroelectricity generation.”

While welcoming the chairman of CPEC, Shariq Vohra, President KCCI said the chamber represents 50 per cent of trade and industrial bodies of the country and the chamber stands with all the mega projects including CPEC that will help Pakistan in the long run.

During the meeting, former KCCI president Zubair Motiwala said there are many suggestions based on a long practical continuous and experience with industrialists that can support CPEC to be more profitable.
