WhatsApp is reportedly developing a new privacy feature for its desktop users.

According to reports, the instant messaging app is working on launching a new feature that enables users to change their privacy settings including last seen, profile photo, about amongst others while using the platform from the desktop.

Currently, these options for changing settings are not available within the WhatsApp desktop app or WhatsApp web. In order to make such changes, users have to use the app on their mobile phones.

It has been reported that a future update will likely be changing for desktop users. As per a report by WaBetaInfo, an online platform that tracks upcoming features of WhatsApp, “Seen that multi-device is helping WhatsApp Desktop to be independent of your phone, WhatsApp is now introducing missing features”.

The report shows that the new feature will allow desktop users to change who can view the last seen, change profile picture, enable/disable read receipts, etc. Furthermore, users will be able to change group settings as well and will be able to choose who can add them in groups. It is already possible to manage blocked phone numbers through WhatsApp desktop. The option will be moved to a new section.

No timeline has been provided as to when the feature will be rolled out. It is speculated that it will initially be available for beta testers.

WhatsApp is planning on introducing a Message rating feature for business accounts. It will facilitate users to rate messages from businesses to provide them with feedback. The rating will be based on the star system with five stars being the maximum and one star being the lowest. It is currently at the beta stage and is available for Android and iOS beta testers.
