Pakistan People’s Party Bilawal Bhutto Zardari on Sunday torn to shreds the Pakistan Democratic Movement (PDM) notice served on the PPP.

Bilawal ripped apart the notice during the Central Executive Committee meeting of the party held at Karachi. The almost six hours session continued till 9 pm but remained indecisive and will meet on Monday again to finalise its course of action.

Sources said Opposition Leader in the Senate Yousaf Raza Gillani offered to resign from his position to “keep the opposition alliance intact.” However, Bilawal and former president Asif Ali Zardari opposed the proposal and the participants said that he (Gillani) had no reason to resign.

The CEC discussed issue of resignations from assemblies, PTI’s deal with the IMF and its effects on the economy, State Bank Ordinance, PTI’s policy on Kashmir, and opposition to PTI government on various fronts.

During the meeting, Bilawal read out the contents of the show-cause notice sent by PDM Secretary General Shahid Khaqan Abbasi, became emotional and tore it into pieces. The participants reportedly applauded him.

Bilawal said the PPP would not resign from the assemblies. He said the alliance was formed to strengthen the democracy and not to weaken it.

He said that the notice was tantamount to imposing the agenda of a single party. He reiterated that the party would give a tough time to the government along with the alliance.

The CEC members reportedly asked the party leadership not to abandon the PDM. They said that the PPP was the founding member of the PDM and it should fight off the efforts of component parties to hijack the alliance.

The CEC meeting was attended by 50 members either in-person or via the video-link. Former president Asif Zardari attended the meeting via video link. Some important participants of the session, who attended the meeting in person, included Yousaf Raza Gillani, Raja Pervaiz Ashraf, Sherry Rehman, Farhatullah Babar, Nayyar Bukhari, Aitzaz Ahsan, Syed Qaim Ali Shah, Syed Murad Ali Shah, Makhdoom Ahmed Mahmood, Qamar Zaman Kaira, Shazia Marri, Faisal Karim Kundi, Ali Madad Jatak, Choudhry Lateef Akbar, Islamuddin Shaikh, Hari Ram Kishori Lal, Jam Mehtab Dahar, Rehman Malik and others.
