Punjab police have arrested Jamiat Ulema-Islam-Fazl (JUI-F) leader and religious cleric Mufti Aziz ur Rehman, who was allegedly accused of molesting his seminary student.

According to the details, the police have arrested both Mufti Aziz ur Rehman and his son, who were blackmailing and threatening the student to kill him from Mianwali.

A video featuring the religious cleric went viral and brought storm all over social media in which he could be seen sexually abusing a seminary student.

The viral video had sparked extreme outrage by the JUI lawmakers, parents, and other religious scholars. The institute itself has issued a notice against the Mufti.

The outraged Pakistani Twitteraties had demanded action against Rehman and a clear out of pedophiles in religious seminaries across the country.

On Thursday, Lahore police booked Jamiat Ulema-Islam-Fazl (JUI-F) leader Mufti Aziz ur Rehman for allegedly sexually assaulting one of his students after a video of the assault went viral on social media, prompting strong backlash from social media users.

The case was registered at the North Cantt police station under Section 377 and Section 506 of the Pakistan Penal Code. Section 377 pertains to “unnatural offences” while Section 506 pertains to “punishment for criminal intimidation”.
