Pakistan Democratic Movement (PDM) chief Maulana Fazal-ur-Rehman announced that the alliance has decided to launch a mass contact campaign after Eidul Fitr.

Addressing a press conference in Islamabad after a meeting of the PDM Steering Committee, the Maulana said a strategy for the mass contact drive would be finalised soon in a meeting of the heads of component parties of the alliance.

He expressed the PDM determination “to continue to struggle to rid the nation of the PTI government and ensure free and fair elections in the country.”

The PDM chief urged the Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) and the Awami National Party (ANP) to reconsider their decision to part ways with the alliance.

“Their doors are still open for them if they admit their mistake and accept the majority decision as per democratic norms,” he added.

Maulana Fazal said that he was in contact with the PPP leadership, but did not disclose the details.

The Maulana and PML-N leader Shahid Khaqan Abbasi did not offer a comment on the statements issued by a PPP leader against the PDM and the PML-N.

PPP leader Faisal Karim Kundi said in a statement that the PDM meeting will also discuss Maryam Nawaz’s statement that the PML-N does not want to dislodge the PTI government.

He criticised economic policies of the government and said the inertia that existed in the country’s economy today would continue in the years to come.

He said the PDM would devise a strategy in consultation with economists to pull the country out of economic crisis.

The Maulana was also critical of the government’s handling of the Covid-19 situation, claiming that the government had not spent a single paisa to purchase vaccines.

This was the second meeting of the PDM after the withdrawal of the PPP and ANP from the alliance. The alliance now comprises eight parties.
