Pakistan has reported 4,696 coronavirus infections and 146 new deaths in the past 24 hours.

According to the National Command and Operation Centre (NCOC), at least 48,740 tests were conducted across the country, out of which 4,696 were positive. The positivity rate is recorded at 9.63 per cent, whereas the number of critical patients stands at 5,490.

The total tally of COVID-19 cases now stands at 825,519, with most cases reported in Punjab. In Punjab, at least 303,182 cases have been reported and 8,500 people have died from the virus so far.

The total number of COVID-19 patients in Sindh has reached 283,560, while 4,645 people have been killed by the virus. Balochistan has recorded 22,369 and 236 deaths, while Khyber Pakhtunkhwa has 118,413 COVID patients and 3,310 deaths because of it.

In Azad Kashmir, 17,187 people have been infected with the virus and 476 people have died. In Gilgit-Baltistan, 5,310 coronavirus patients have been reported so far and 107 deaths.

According to the portal, the total number of COVID-19 patients in Islamabad is 75,498 and 683 patients have lost succumbed to the virus as of now.

On Friday, NCOC head Asad Umar said that the total number of critical coronavirus patients on oxygen reached 5,360 — up by 57 per cent from the peak in last June.

Umar had also talked about Pakistan’s oxygen capacities in a series of tweets. He had said that Pakistan’s oxygen capacity had been increased from 487 tons per day to 798 tons per day. He had said Pakistan also imported 19,200 cylinders last year to ensure distribution.
