Pakistan Peoples Party’s (PPP) Pir Ameer Ali Shah Jillani has won the Tharparkar NA-221 by-election by a clear majority, according to the unofficial and unverified results.

PPP’s candidate secured 103,502 votes while Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf’s (PTI) Nizam-ud-Din Rahimoon remained second by getting 52,522 votes.

This seat was vacant after PPP’s leader Pir Noor Muhammad Shah Jillani’s death who passed away due to COVID-19 in Karachi.

The constituency had a total of 318 polling stations with 281,900 registered voters, according to the District Returning Officer (DRO). 95 polling stations among 318 were declared sensitive while 130 were declared extremely sensitive.

To counter any law and order situation, 2,000 police and Ranger personnel were deployed outside polling stations. CCTV cameras were installed in extremely sensitive polling stations.
