Chief Minister of Punjab, Usman Buzdar has expressed concern over the sharp increase in the number of COVID-19 patients in Lahore and other districts.

In a post on Twitter, the Chief Minister’s official account stated that Usman Buzdar chaired the meeting of the cabinet committee centered around the eradication of COVID-19.

The meeting revealed that the United Kingdom’s new COVID-19 variant was spreading in Punjab, having already infected a significant number of people in the district.

Consequently, public meetings, wedding halls and co-curricular activities in educational institutions are to be banned in Punjab and other districts, as reported by the Associated Press of Pakistan.

Punjab continues to record the highest number of COVID-19 deaths among all other provinces; with 5,689 fatalities on Friday. The province has recorded a total of 182,576 cases so far.
