This is the first time the two nations have talked ever since US President Joe Biden has taken up office

Talks were held between a senior Pentagon official and the Chinese military to focus on managing risk between the two nations.

This is the first time the two nations have talked ever since US President Joe Biden has taken up office.

Speaking to Reuters, a U.S official said that the two superpowers “utilized the U.S.-PRC Defense Telephone Link to conduct a secure video conference”.

“Both sides agreed on the importance of maintaining open channels of communication between the two militaries,” they added.

They also said that U.S. Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin has yet to speak with his Chinese counterpart.

Just last week deputy assistant secretary of defense for China Michael Chase spoke with the deputy director for the People’s Liberation Army Office for International Military Cooperation Major General Huang Xueping.

Relations between the US and China have worsened over the years.

US President Joe Biden’s administration has described rocky relations with Beijing as the “biggest geopolitical test” of this century.

Despite the growing tensions, U.S. military officials are open to dialogue with China in order to avoid any potential accidents.

While making her tour of Asia, Vice President Kamala Harris said Washington does not seek conflict with Beijing but will speak up on issues such as the South China Sea.
