Interior Minister Sheikh Rashid Ahmad has said that the Taliban should be given some time to form a government and run Afghanistan’s affairs.
The minister expressed these views in a meeting with the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees Filippo Grandi while discussing the issue of Afghan evacuation and aid for Afghan citizens.
The Interior Minister said that the Afghans ought not to be left alone in the current crisis and that basic their needs like food, medicines, and other essential items would be fulfilled on humanitarian grounds.
Rashid prompted the International community to realize and understand the actual realities in Afghanistan, and stressed the need for the provision of financial and human resources for the governance and administration of the Taliban-ruled Afghanistan.
The minister also expressed the fear of famine, lawlessness, chaos, and anarchy in the country. He added that trucks and planes loaded with food items and medicines had been sent to Afghanistan under humanitarian assistance.
On this occasion, the UN High Commissioner for Refugees lauded Pakistan’s role in the continuous care of almost four million Afghan refugees over the last four decades.
The visiting dignitary also acknowledged Pakistan’s role in Afghanistan’s stability and humanitarian work and he pledged to play the future role in Afghanistan with further improvement in collaboration with Pakistan.
Even before the Taliban took over last month, Grandi said, more than 18 million Afghans, or about half the population, required humanitarian aid.
More than 3.5 million Afghans were already displaced in a country that is battling drought and the COVID-19 pandemic.
