The students of matric will appear in the examination for maths and three other elective subjects while intermediate students will only appear in elective subjects, said Education Minister Shafqat Mahmood on Wednesday.

“All the decisions have been made with the consensus of all provinces. It was not easy for any provincial government to close schools,” Shafqat Mahmood said.

No student would be awarded grades without attempting examinations this year, the education minister stressed. “If we do not conduct the exams, then students will not even employ minimum efforts to study.”

The purpose of conducting exams of elective subjects was to assess students on the subjects they have opted for. The exams were scheduled to begin on June 24 but to facilitate the students they will now start after July 10.

“We have also asked boards to keep some gap between the exams,” he said. In the past, we also asked the boards to reduce the syllabus as many institutions weren’t able to complete the course work.
