The government has tightened security for the Ashura processions across the country with ban on billion riding and suspension of mobile phone service in different areas.

The day of Ashura is marked by Muslims across the world to commemorate the martyrdom of Hazrat Imam Hussain (RA) and his companions on Muharram 10.

The security plan will remain enforced for three days, from Muharram 8 to 10.

In Karachi, 3,000 police personnel, including women officers, have been deployed. Sindh Special Unit and Rangers will assist the police.

Moreover, snipers have been deployed on 124 buildings along the procession route.

The Karachi traffic police have also announced a diversion plan for the three days.

In Lahore, 8,000 police personnel have been deployed on Muharram 9 and 10,000 on Muharram 10. It includes 14 superintendents, 13 DSPs and 83 inspectors. Rangers and Army troops will also be assisting the police.

According to DIG operations, more than 605 Majalis will be held and 125 processions taken out on Muharram 9 and 10 in Lahore.

The Quetta police have completed security arrangements for Muharram processions. The main procession of 9th Muharram will leave from Mach early in the morning.

According to Quetta IG Azhar Ali, the procession will be monitored by more than 250 CCTV cameras and three battalions of the Pakistan army will be on standby. At least 6,000 security guards will be deployed, including FC personnel.

The procession routes will be sealed on the night of Muharram 8.
