The Supreme Court of Pakistan (SCP) has ordered that those who vandalized the Hindu temple in Bhong be instantly arrested and also be made to pay for the rehabilitation of the Hindu worship place.
The top court reprimanded the police SHO who arrested the eight year old. “What does an eight year old know of religion?” Chief Justice asked. “Do you not have any children of your own?” He said to the policemen involved.
“Make sure such violence against Hindu community never repeats itself as the rampaging miscreants might repeat this action,” The Supreme Court urged, hoping to safeguard the minority.
The Chief Secretary Punjab and Inspector General of Police Punjab appeared in front of the court today.
The unfortunate mob attack took place on Wednesday when a group of people vandalized the religious site and blocked the M-5 Sukkur-Multan Motorway after a local court granted bail to a nine-year-old Hindu boy, who allegedly urinated in a local seminary.
Rangers were deployed in the area.
The apex court has ordered the authorities to take the compensation for temple rehabilitation from those who plundered it.
Rejecting the progress report by Rahim Yar Khan Commissioner, the SC ordered IG Punjab Police and the Chief Secretary to furnish a report within a week. The Top Judge also instructed the constitution of a village committee to oversee peace establishment in the region.
Earlier, the Ministry of Human Rights tweeted that it is in touch with Rahim Yar Khan police to ensure action is taken against perpetrators.
