Quetta Gladiators all-rounder Anwar Ali has been ruled out of the remainder of the Pakistan Super League (PSL) after testing positive for COVID-19.
the 33-year-old Anwar returned a positive COVID-19 result which was conducted on his arrival at the team hotel in Karachi, yesterday. Anwar is currently under isolation in Karachi.
Anwar is the third individual to be ruled out of the tournament. Yesterday, Gladiators’ Naseem Shah was sent back home violating COVID-19 protocols while Multan Sultans’ Shahid Afridi suffered an injury in the lower back during training.
It must be noted that the squads have been confirmed for the Abu Dhabi leg. The squads will leave via chartered planes while international stars will join them too spending a mandatory seven-day quarantine period.
Players will undergo two rounds of tests before their departure to UAE on May 26. The players will end their quarantine period on June 1 during which two tests will be taken on May 27 and 29.
Three hotels have been booked for the matches with two teams staying at each hotel, which is approved by the company incharge, Restrata, of maintaining the bio-secure bubble. Incase of any positive cases within a team, only two franchises will be quarantined, at the same time, while the rest can continue playing the tournament.
A mini-draft could also take place due to the non-availability of foreign players. The final will be played on June 20, after which the Pakistan team will leave for England tour on June 23. Teams will start practicing from June 2.
