Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) Capt (r) Muhammad Safdar has skipped a National Accountability Bureau (NAB) hearing in assets beyond means case against him.

In a reply submitted to the accountability bureau by his lawyer, Safdar, who is the spouse of PML-N Vice President Maryam Nawaz, stated that he could not appear before NAB because of a hearing in the Peshawar High Court concerning his pre-arrest bail. The plea was submitted to the deputy director of NAB Complaint Cell by Safdar’s lawyer Ashfaq Ali.

On Monday, NAB decided to include Maryam Nawaz in the probe against her husband Capt (r) Safdar for allegedly owning assets beyond known sources of income. The accountability watchdog had taken this decision after “important leads” in the case emerged.

The NAB had alleged that Maryam was the beneficial owner of the multiple properties owned by Safdar in his hometown, Mansehra. It had further claimed that Maryam Nawaz owned hundreds of acres of land in her name in Raiwind and other cities of Punjab.

It may be noted here that the PML-N leader and son-in-law of former prime minister Nawaz Sharif is facing a NAB investigation since 2018. He is alleged to have owned 300-kanal land, 30-kanal plot, a house, a flour production unit among other properties in Mansehra.
