Prime Minister Imran Khan and Chief of Army Staff (COAS) Gen Qamar Javed Bajwa were briefed on the Karachi Transformation Plan (KTP) on Thursday, which contains more than a 100 projects for the city, worth PKR 1.1 trillion.
The Karachi Transformation Plan (KTP) is designed to resolve the chronic municipal and infrastructure issues. As such, the Prime Minister directed timely completion of all projects. The meeting was also attended by the federal ministers Asad Umar, Faisal Vawda, Sheikh Rashid Ahmed, and Prime Minister’s Adviser on Finance Dr Abdul Hafeez Sheikh.
The Prime Minister said addressing Karachi’s civic problems in a conclusive manner was extremely important. He said illegal construction and encroachments along storm drains were the main causes of flooding in the city during monsoon season each year. However, he added, those who would be displaced during the anti-encroachment drive of the KTP should be provided alternative housing facility.
He also directed the constitution of a technical committee under the Planning and Development Ministry to complete proposals for enhancing the capacity and utility of the K-4 water supply project.
During the meeting of the National Coordination Committee (NCC) on Housing, Construction and Development, the Prime Minister was informed about the Pakistan Quarters project, where 6000 apartments would be constructed. In the first phase, construction of 700 housing will be completed by February 2021.
Imran Khan also directed the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) chairman to facilitate all overseas Pakistanis seeking to invest in the country. “Overseas Pakistanis are our asset,” he added.
