On Monday, in a press briefing by the Director-General of Inter-Services Public Relations, Major Gen Iftikhar Babar remarked in reply to a question that the Pakistan Democratic Movement (PDM) has no reason to march to Rawalpindi.

In the media briefing, the Director-General was asked to comment on the PDM’s threat of marching to Rawalpindi against the incumbent government. The DG replied: “I don’t see any reason that they come to Pindi..we will look after them, will give them tea and water.”

The Chairperson of the PDM, Maulana Fazlur Rehman of the Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam – Fazl (JUI-F), initiated the threat of a march to Rawalpindi as part of the opposition alliance’s strategy to oust the Imran Khan-led Pakistan Tehreek e Insaf government.

Gen Babar further added that if someone doubts the election results, they should contact the relevant institution. Dragging the army into political matters is not a good thing to do. He further expressed concern about the allegations being levelled against the army by the PDM.

“There is no need for the army to come into political matters, do not drag the army into political matters,” the DG said, “we want to stay out of it, we are out of it.”

While commenting on the issue he also commented that there is absolutely no room for back-door contacts with political parties.
