Afghanistan’s former vice president Amrullah Saleh targetted Pakistan in a petty blame game.
He claimed that not only did Pakistan and Afghanistan provide direct and indirect support to the Taliban. The US also forced Afghanistan to realease the prisoners who became Taliban leaders.
He said that “Pakistan was not just a sanctuary or safe haven for the Taliban in all these years. The entire country was at the service of the Taliban, who used the neighbouring country as their support base.”
Many countries have blamed Pakistan for the failure that the Afghan mission has been. The US is working hard to shift the focus from their own failure in the country. They have failed to explain why the military the US and Afghan government trained in the last two decades surrendered without a fight. The Afghans massively outnumbered the Taliban and had superior equipment and yet showed no ressistance.
The truth is that the government had lost the trust and control of the Afghans before the Taliban. The governmet was accused of corruption and victimisation of the Pashtuns.
A member of the Panjshir Resistance, the anti-Taliban force of the country, said concerning the US, “We said are you sure that these people will not end up at the frontlines? Their answer was no but they all ended up at the frontlines. So it was not prisoners’ release but gifting Taliban a division of highly radicalised fighters”

Amrullah Saleh is a strong Pakistan-hater. “Afghanistan is too big to be swallowed by Pakistan,” Saleh recently said. He also tweeted how he will not leave Afghanistan, and nobody except God can evacuate his soul from the country’s soil. “I own Afghanistan & it owns me. We are one. It speaks to me every day.” An opinion his former president failed to share when he was rumoured to have fled the country with a plane full of money.
The Taliban took over Kabul on 15th August. The President Aashraf Ghani fled abandoning his country. The Taliban have considered the power officially transferred and have begun their government.
