ISLAMABAD: Information and Broadcasting Minister Shibli Faraz has criticised the opposition for “trying to make controversial the election of the Senate chairman and deputy chairman after their defeat.”
Addressing a press conference on Saturday, Minister Shibli said the elections were held in a free and transparent manner and were not influenced.
He said that the PDM component parties had conflicting interests. The PPP and the PML-N stabbed each other in the back in the Senate elections.
He said the government took every step to make the Senate election free and fair.
Shibli advised the opposition parties to see beyond their vested interests and work for the uplift of the country.
About the Pakistan Democratic Movement’s planned long march on March 26, he claimed that the opposition will not get any support from the masses.
He said for the first time in our history, a candidate from the tribal districts was elected as the Senate deputy chairman.
Shibli said Prime Minister Imran Khan integrated FATA into Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. He wanted to do something for the neglected areas of the country, he added.
He said the government did not have a majority in the Senate that’s why it could not introduce legislation for the uplift of masses due to hurdles created by the opposition.
The opposition has been obstructing legislation in the Senate for the last two-and-a-half years, he continued.
Shibli said the those who have been taking turn to rule the country had plunged it into debt and paralysed its institutions.
He called the victory in the Senate election defeat of a system which has been eating into the fabric of the country for the last 30 years.
Information Minister Shibli said the economy is stabilising as a result of the policies of the government.
He said the government was fully aware of inflation and the prime minister had been monitoring the situation.
