Pakistan’s Nobel laureate Malala Yousafzai has teamed up with Apple Inc’s TV+ to produce dramas, children’s series, animation and documentaries that will air on the tech giant’s streaming service, the two announced.
The Apple Inc announced in its blog: “Today, Apple is unveiling a multiyear programming partnership with women’s rights activist and youngest Nobel laureate Malala Yousafzai. Building on Malala’s longstanding relationship with Apple, her original programming for Apple TV+ will span dramas, comedies, documentaries, animation, and children’s series, and draw on her ability to inspire people around the world.”
The iPhone maker’s blog post on International Women’s Day quoted Malala as saying: “I believe in the power of stories to bring families together, forge friendships, build movements, and inspire children to dream. And I couldn’t ask for a better partner than Apple to help bring these stories to life. I’m grateful for the opportunity to support women, young people, writers, and artists in reflecting the world as they see it.”
Apple produced a documentary about Malala in 2015 and teamed up with her Malala Fund in 2018 to promote secondary education to girls across the globe.
Malala was 12 in 2009 when she blogged under a pen name for the BBC about living under the rule of the Pakistani Taliban. She survived assassination attempt in 2012 by a Taliban gunman for campaigning against extremists’ attempts to deny women education.
In 2014, she became the youngest-ever Nobel Peace Prize laureate at age 17. In 2018 she launched Assembly, a digital publication for girls and young women available on Apple News. She graduated from Oxford University in June.
Malala said that she believed in storytelling because it has been part of her life. “It was my story that inspired so many people around the world to realise that not all girls have access to education.”
On the 110th anniversary of International Women’s Day, Malala said women around the world should take a pause to appreciate all they had achieved.
“I want every girl and woman to be proud of herself, to be proud of all that she has achieved in her life,” she said.
