Israel arrests families of escaped prisoners

The Israeli troops have arrested relatives of the escapees who broke a high-security jail with the help of a spoon. 

The six Palestinians broke the highly guarded Gilboa prison on Monday through a hole under a sink in northern Israel. The group on the run includes Zakaria Zubeidi, Mahmud Ardah, and Munadel Infeiat, who are members of the Islamic jihad armed group. 

The Palestinian Prisoner’s Club confirmed that two brothers of Mahmud Ardah and four other people that includes other family members of Ardah and the father of Munadel Infeiat have been arrested by the Israel Army. 

The spokeswoman for the prisoner’s group Amani Sarahneh said that other family members could also have been detained and arrested. 

The Israeli Army which has occupied the West Bank since 1967 said “several arrests have been made” without any further clarification. 

Omar Shakir The Director for Human Rights Watch Israel and Palestine condemned the arrest in a tweet calling the arrest ‘a mafia-style tactic’. 

The people of the Gaza Strip and Jenin celebrated the news of the escape by coming out to the streets and congratulating each other. 

Many people in the Gaza Strip and in Jenin took to the streets to celebrate when news of the escape broke on Monday.

Israeli Prime Minister Naftali Bennett has called the breakout “a serious event that required a comprehensive effort by all of the security services”.

On the other hand, the Palestinian President, Moha­m­med Shtayyeh, said that he was happy about the jailbreak.
