Lebanon’s militia group Hezbollah says it has fired rockets near Israeli positions in response to Israeli air raids on southern Lebanon on Thursday.
In a statement, the Iranian-backed Hezbollah claimed to have fired dozens of rockets in the disputed Shebaa Farms area. The Shia group also said the Israeli air attacks had hit the open ground in Lebanon.
It is the third day of cross-border hostilities that threaten a period of relative peace prevailing since 2006 when Israel and Hezbollah fought a one-month war.
In a tweet, the Israeli Air Force said that most of the rockets were intercepted by the aerial defense system.
The Air Force said the rest of the rockets landed in open areas adjacent to Har Dov, the disputed Shebaa Farms border district. It said the civilian life adjacent to the Lebanese border was in full swing.
The Israeli military said its fighter jets have responded with raids in southern Lebanon after more than 10 rockets were fired across the border.
Israel’s Army Radio also reported that the military fired shells and artillery towards parts of southern Lebanon under the control of Hezbollah.
Earlier, Israeli struck Southern Lebanon with shelling and air attacks in retaliation, in an escalation of cross-border hostilities.
