The Ranjha of epic movie, actor Ejaz Durrani, died after a protracted illness in Lahore on Monday. He was 85.

A large number of people and his fans attended his funeral prayers after Zuhar.

Punjab Chief Minister Sardar Usman Buzdar expressed his grief and extended heartfelt sympathy and condolences to the bereaved family.

Popular by his maiden name, Ejaz, was married to the late Noor Jehan and father of three of her children.

Ejaz, a film actor, director and producer, remained active from 1956 to 1984. He immortalized the epic character Ranjha in the 1970 movie Heer Ranjha.

He started his acting career from movie Hameeda in 1956. He got a break in 1957 with a lead role in film Bara Admi.

Ejaz starred in film Mirza Sahiban. After a successful career as an actor, he turned to distribution and filmmaking. He was one of the producers of movies Sholay and Dosti.

Ejaz was born in a village in Jalalpur Jattan in Gujrat district in 1935. He remained married to singing icon Madam Noor Jehan from 1959 to 1971 and the couple had three daughters Hina, Shazia and Nazia.

Ejaz married superstar Firdous who had also been his lead co-star in movie Heer Ranjah. This marriage did not last long either.
