Prime Minister Imran Khan summoned a meeting of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI)’s Parliamentary Board to review the party’s nominated candidates for the upcoming Senate elections following issues raised by the party’s local chapters with the original lineup. Federal Minister Faisal Vawda remained on the list after review, with objections against his candidacy laid to rest.

The decision was taken in the meeting chaired by the Prime Minister in Islamabad today. In the meeting, the Parliamentary Board’s leadership reviewed the reservations raised against the candidates announced by the party.

According to sources, Prime Minister Imran Khan said that Faisal Vawda has rendered services for the party that make him eligible for candidacy in the Senate elections.

PTI’s Sindh chapter has raised issue with the candidacy of Vawda and Saifullah Abro. Reportedly, the Prime Minister will address the party’s Sindh leadership via video link today and take them into confidence.

During the meeting, the PTI central leadership decided to withdraw the Senate elections ticket from Najibullah Khattak. Instead, Liaquat Tarakai has been nominated as the party’s candidate from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

Earlier, after backlash, PTI withdrew the Balochistan candidacy of business tycoon Abdul Qadir and granted a ticket to Zahoor Agha instead.
