Special Assistant to the Chief Minister of Punjab (SACMP) on Information Dr Firdous Ashiq Awan has tendered her resignation from the post.
Dr Awan directly sent her resignation letter to CM Punjab Sardar Usman Buzdar, who has duly accepted the resignation.
Prior to assuming the charge as CM Punjab’s aide, Prime Minister Imran Khan had appointed Dr Firdous as the special assistant to the prime minister on information and broadcasting in April 2019. She had replaced Fawad Chaudhry, who at that time was the minister of science and technology.
The aide to CM Punjab had been in the centre of public controversy as of recent.
Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leader Firdous Ashiq Awan slapped Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) lawmaker Abdul Qadir Mandokhel in the face after a heated discussion between the two during a live TV show earlier in June.
The footage of the incident went viral on social media. Firdous along with Mandokhel and PML-N’s Azma Bukhari appeared on Express News talk show hosted by Javed Chaudhry. However, during the show, both politicians entered a heated debate over corruption, excessive load-shedding, and the Ghotki train accident.
Earlier in May, Dr Awan on visited a Ramzan Bazar set up in Jinnah Stadium, Sialkot, where she lashed out at Sialkot Assistant Commissioner Sonia Sadaf over “substandard items” being sold in the bazar.
The video of the incident got viral where the CM aide can be seen misbehaving with the civil servant, triggering a strong response from the social media users, who called out the politician for humiliating a civil servant in public.
