The situation of coronavirus pandemic is getting worse as Pakistan reported 7,586 fresh cases of COVID-19 in the last 24 hours, said National Command and Operation Center (NCOC) on Sunday.

The country registered its highest number of daily COVID-19 cases — 7,678 — on Friday since the pandemic started in 2020, the NCOC data showed.

According to the NCOC statistics, 58,334 tests were conducted in the country during the last 24 hours, of which 7,586 came back positive, pushing the nationwide tally of the virus cases to 1,367,605. The country’s positivity rate now stands at a record high of 13 percent.

Meanwhile, 20 people died of coronavirus during the past 24 hours, taking the death toll to 29,097.

The country’s active coronavirus cases surged to 70,263, making it the highest number in four months. Pakistan last reported 65,725 active cases on September 16, 2021.
