Pakistan is observing Youm-e-Ashura with solemnity in remembrance of the martyrdom of Hazrat Imam Hussain amid tight coronavirus and security arrangements today (Thursday).

Mobile phone service has been suspended in major cities of the country, including Karachi, Hyderabad, Quetta, and Sukkur to avoid any untoward incident.

Taziya, Alam and Zuljanah processions will be taken out in cities and towns across the country. Religious scholars would shed light over the historical, social and religious aspects of supreme sacrifice of Hazrat Imam Hussain.

The main procession in Karachi will start from Nishtar Park and end at the Hussainian Iranian at Kharadar, with Allama Shahenshah Naqvi addressing it.

The participants of the procession will offer prayers at Tibet Centre, while all the connecting roads of MA Jinnah have been sealed off to provide security to the procession.

In Lahore, the main Zuljanah procession emerged from Nisar Haveli inside Mochi Gate late on Wednesday night amidst strict security arrangements and began its day-long journey on its route.

Accompanied by hundreds of mourners, the Zuljanah procession which after passing through its traditional route, including Sunehri Masjid, Pani Wala Talab and Bhatti Chowk, will culminate at Karbala Gamay Shah near Data Darbar on Thursday evening where Majlis-e-Sham-e-Ghariban will be held to commemorate the martyrdom of Hazrat Imam Hussain (RA) in which noted Zakir will shed light on the importance of the sacrifice of the grandson of Prophet (PBUH) and his companions.

Police have been deployed at all sensitive areas and all roads leading to the imambargahs have been blocked.

The processions will start at 9am in Hyderabad and Jhang, 10am in Faisalabad, 11am in Gujranwala and Rohri, 12pm in Sukkur and Khairpur.

The processions have already started in Quetta and Dera Ismail Khan.

Standard operating procedures (SOPs) have also been issued for the mourning processions to avert the spread of coronavirus, as the cases in the country increase due to the fourth wave of the pandemic.
