According to sources, former Pakistan wicket-keeper is not happy with Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), for handing the best wicketkeeper award of the recently concluded National T20 Cup to Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s captain Muhammad Rizwan.

Central Punjab’s wicket keeper finished the tournament with most number of dismissals (11), three stumpings and eight catches but award was given to Rizwan who bagged eight victims.

The PCB’s officials fielding stats for the tournament also included Rizwan’s four catches as an outfielder in his total number of dismissals, which is against normal practice as, both, wicketkeeping and outfield victims are calculated separately.

When asked about this, PCB’s Media Manager Domestic Cricket, Ahsan Nagi, said “he (Rizwan) was instrumental in his team’s victories, both, as a regular fielder and wicketkeeper”.

The player awards were decided as per points system developed by the National High Performance Centre.

“Also, Rizwan’s impact, on basis of points system, solely as a wicketkeeper was 0.8 which is better as compared to Kamran Akamal’s 1.1,” Nagi added.

Kamran Akmal, in the past has been vocal about his absence in the national team despite scoring heavily in the domestic circuit.

Khyber Pakhtunkhwa defeated Southern Punjab by 10 runs to clinch the 2020-21 National T20 Cup title at the Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium on Sunday.
