In a bid to stem the spread of COVID-19, the Punjab government has imposed a smart lockdown in the cities of Lahore and Gujranwala. According to the notification, 17 areas in Lahore and three in Gujranwala have been sealed.

All markets, shopping malls, restaurants, offices shall remain closed in the affected areas, while there shall be a ban on movement of people to and from these areas by public and private transport except, the limited movement of one person per vehicle to and from the exempted facilities, the notification further said.

In the last 24 hours, 1,920 people tested positive for COVID-19 in Pakistan while 46 lost their lives, according to the latest statistics released by the National Command and Control Centre (NCOC). Most deaths were seen in the province of Punjab followed by Sindh.

As of January 18, the total active COVID-19 cases in Pakistan stand at 34,986. Yesterday, 37,949 tests were conducted with Sindh conducting 10,945; Punjab: 15,195; Khyber Pakhtunkhwa: 6,071; Islamabad: 4,478; Balochistan: 543; Gilgit-Baltistan: 376 and Azad Kashmir: 341.

Out of 1756 ventilators reserved for COVID-19 patients in the country, 325 ventilators are currently occupied. There is no patient on the ventilator in AJK, GB and Balochistan.

A total of 521,211 cases have been detected so far in the country with AJK reporting 8,631; Balochistan: 18,612; GB: 4,884, ICT: 40,111, KPK: 63,615; Punjab: 149,782 and Sindh: 235,536.

Till now, Pakistan has recorded 10,997 deaths. Punjab is on top of the list with 4,432 casualties followed by Sindh: 3,793, KPK: 1,783; Islamabad: 457; Balochistan: 190; GB: 101 and AJK: 241.

631 hospitals in Pakistan are equipped with COVID-19 facilities with 2,849 patients being treated. Till now, Pakistan has conducted 7,405,571 tests.
