The Counter-Terrorism Department (CTD) on Thursday revealed that a Muttahida Qaumi Movement-London (MQM-L) leader based in the United States is running a target killing network in Karachi.

Addressing a press conference alongside Rangers officials, DIG Omar Shahid informed the reporters of a joint operation conducted by the Rangers and CTD teams in Karachi. He disclosed that Rangers had arrested a team of MQM-L target killers in 2017.

The DIG said that an intelligence-based operation was going on in the port city after an alleged recording of Kehkashan Haider — the woman accused of running a target killing ring — emerged wherein she was discussing targets with an alleged killer.

He said that the teams follow the instructions of MQM founder Altaf Hussain, adding that “assassins were offered Rs50,000 in advance and up to Rs200,000 on completion of the target”.

DIG Omar Shahid, during his address, also urged the Foreign Ministry to look into the matter as Kehkashan Haider is apparently a US citizen.
