While doing a press conference, Sindh’s Education Minister Saeed Ghani said that 100% attendance in schools will not be allowed till the COVID-19 cases reduce to zero in the country.

“Until then, 50% of the students will be called in. “If we call all students to school at once, it will become impossible to implement COVID-19 SOPs especially social distancing.”

He further added that Shafqat Mehmood’s decision of opening schools for all students is creating confusion for the parents as well as students and federal government should review this decision.

“How will children maintain social distancing if we allow 100 % attendance?” Ghani questioned, “Once the pandemic end, all children will be allowed to go to school.”

Ghani further asked the school administrations to ensure that SOPs are followed strictly. Temperature of students must be checked while entering and social distancing should also be observed.

In January, a meeting of inter-provincial education ministers under the chairmanship of Federal Minister Education Shafqat Mehmood decided to re-open educational institutes in three phases from January 18.

In a press conference following the meeting the Education Minister said all universities will be open from February 1. Classes nine to twelve will re-open from January 18 while classes one to eight will re-open from January 25.
