On Friday, the President of Pakistan appointed Capt (Retd) Zahid Saeed as the new Chairman of the Federal Public Service Commission (FPSC), according to a copy of the notification available with The Correspondent.

“In exercise of the power conferred under Article 242 of the Constitution of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan… the President of Pakistan is pleased to appoint Capt. (Retd.) Zahid Saeed… as chairman FPSC,” read the official notification from the Establishment Division of the Cabinet Secretariat. 

He will serve as the Chairman FPSC till December 15 2022

Zahid Saeed is a seasoned bureaucrat and was already a member on the FPSC commission. He is holder of the Pride of Performance for his work on the Rawalpindi Metro Bus project, and has previously served as Senior Member Board of Revenue Punjab and as Chief Secretary Punjab, along with other senior posts.

The last appointee to the position was Maroof Afzal, who passed away due to COVID-19 last week before taking charge of his appointment as the head of FPSC. 

The multi-stage Central Superior Services (CSS) exams are currently underway, in early November the result for the written component of the exam was announced. The interview component for the exam will be held next month, making the appointment of the FPSC of greater significance.
