Counting of votes has begun after the polling ended in the elections in 41 cantonment boards across Pakistan.

A total 1,560 candidates are contesting the elections in 206 wards.

Polling began at 8am and continued until 5 in the evening.

It is learnt that the polling was suspended briefly at a polling station in Multan’s ward number 4 after a scuffle between the supporters of rival candidates.

Police controlled the situation and resumed the polling process.

Clashes were also reported from Sialkot, Rawalpindi, Gujranwala, Chaklala, Peshawar, Abbottabad, Hyderabad, and Karachi’s Faisal cantonment area.

In Gujranwala, PML-N candidate Malik Azad accused the polling staff of rigging.

He told Geo News that the polling staff raised unnecessary objections and stopped his voters from casting votes.

The PML-N candidate said that even he was restricted from entering the polling station when he tried to register his compliant.

Interestingly, two women were arrested who claimed to be polling agents from a women’s polling station in Clifton’s ward number 4 in Karachi. The women impersonators reached the polling station without the required documents.
