People’s Party (PPP) Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, while lashing out at the government for issuing an ordinance to hold Senate election through open ballot, challenged that the opposition alliance, the PDM, will give it tough time.

Addressing a press conference, Bilawal claimed that even the ruling PTI members would vote against its candidates, that’s why the government issued the ordinance.

He lashed out at the government for issuing an ordinance and announced to challenge it in the court.

He said that the PTI government did not want to hold free and fair elections. It did not expect that anyone could challenge it in Senate. But when the PDM decided to contest election jointly, it resorted to unconstitutional move, Bilawal added.

Terming the presidential ordinance a conspiracy, he called it an attack on democracy and parliament of Pakistan.

The presidential ordinance will deprive parliamentarians of their right to vote and right to free will, Bilawal maintained.

He said the ordinance will set a precedent that before any general election when the National Assembly is dissolved, the president will issue an ordinance amending the electoral procedure. He [president] could promulgate ordinance to hold general elections through open ballot and ask voters to vote through one’s Facebook account and we would watch helplessly, he continued.

He alleged that the PTI is being given exceptional treatment and it is being done to satisfy the ego of one man. Exception to one party, one man, is a message to the democratic forces and state institutions that your rhetoric about working within a system is a farce.

He said the government is usurping opposition’s right to talk in assemblies, and the PPP will fight the case in court through Sindh government and its leader in Senate Raza Rabbani.

He announced that the PDM will take out a rally against the government in Hyderabad on Tuesday.
