At least 11 people have been killed and several others injured in a blast near the airport in the Afghan capital Kabul.

The British media quoted Taliban sources as saying that 11 people were killed and several others injured, including children and women.

It is learnt that Taliban guards also injured in the blast.

Pentagon spokesman John Kirby confirmed the blast in his tweet but did not give any details.

The British media quoted a US official as claiming that the blast was a suicide bombing.

The French news agency AFP reported that according to unconfirmed reports, the blast took place at the main gate of Kabul Airport where thousands of people have gathered for the past 12 days to leave the country.

Another report said the blast took place near the Baron Hotel which was being used by Western countries for evacuation operations.

The incident took place as thousands of Afghans gathered at Kabul’s Hamid Karzai International Airport to flee the country.

There are also large number of US and British troops at the airport trying to ensure the safe evacuation of their citizens and staff.
