The United States Food and Drug Administration (FDA) authorized Moderna’s Covid-19 vaccine for emergency use, on Friday. Millions of doses of the vaccine are to be rolled out across the country this weekend, with preference being given to the elderly and healthcare workers.

The vaccine from Pfizer and BioNTech was the first to be authorized in the US. It is currently in the process of being distributed across America.

“With the availability of two vaccines now for the prevention of COVID-19, the FDA has taken another crucial step in the fight against this global pandemic that is causing vast numbers of hospitalizations and deaths in the United States each day,” FDA Commissioner Stephen M Hahn said in a statement.

President Trump also congratulated American citizens on the availability of the Moderna vaccine.
