February is one of the deadliest months in Afghanistan as 340 people were either killed or wounded in the last 15 days in magnetic IEDs, roadside bombs and targeted killings.

According to Afghan news channel Tolo News, 168 people were killed and 172 were wounded particularly in targeted killings and IED blasts. The Taliban attacks dramatically increased after an impasse in the peace negotiations in Doha.

Since February 1, 49 IED explosions, 37 unclaimed armed attacks and three car bombs by the Taliban against security forces have taken place.

Most of the attacks were carried out in provinces like Kabul, Nangarhar, Kandahar, Uruzgan and Faryab.

“The problem is not insecurity in the provinces and in Kabul, the problem is that there is no coordination between our security and intelligence agencies,” said Assadullah Nadim, a military analyst.

“The security and defense forces are responsible to protect and defend the lives and properties of the public, we will defend our homeland with complete preparedness and will crush the enemy,” said Ministry of Defense spokesman Rohullah Ahmadzai.

“As long as pressure is not applied to the warring parties and they are not condemned, violence will not stop,” said parliamentarian Sadiq Qaderi.
