The COVID-19 cases continue to rise in the province of Punjab. Out of 2,253 people who tested positive on Monday, 1,191 were recorded in Lahore. This is the sixth consecutive day when registered cases have gone above 1,000.

Punjab is already on the top of the list in number of deaths. Thus far, the reported deaths are 5,769. In the last 24 hours 16 deaths were seen.

In a bid to stem the spread of COVID-19 in the province, the government of Punjab has already imposed a smart lockdown in seven cities of the province. These include Lahore, Rawalpindi, Gujrat, Multan, Faisalabad, Gujranwala and Sargodha. 17 areas in Gujrat, 16 in Lahore while four in Rawalpindi have been sealed.

The NCOC has expressed its concerns over the spike in cases in the province and has urged the authorities to implement the Standard Order Procedures (SOPs) effectively.
