In the last 24 hours, 66 people lost their lives due to COVID-19, highest single day tally since July while 2548 people tested positive, according to the National Command and Control Centre (NCOC).

In a bid to curb the spread of COVID-19, the Punjab government has imposed a smart lockdown in 70 areas of the province. Out of these 70 areas, 26 are in the provincial capital Lahore.

The authorities have sealed the Ghouri Block, Umar Block, Shaheen Block, Safari Block, Gulbahar Block, Gul Mehar Block, Babar Block and Overseas Block of the Bahria Town. Similarly, the Sector C & D of the Askari 10, X, Y and Z blocks of the DHA Phase III, Sector A & G of the DHA Phase V, Sector D of Phase IV, and Street No 7 & 8 of Cavalry Ground have been sealed.

The C & D blocks of the Punjab Cooperative Housing Society, Tariq Block of Garden Town and some localities of Wapda Town, Model Town and Fateh Garh have also been locked down due to presence of the Covid-19 cases.

To counter the second wave in the province, the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government has extended the health emergency till March 2021. The provincial health minister shared the notification on his Twitter.

The federal cabinet, chaired by Prime Minister Imran Khan today will also discuss the measures taken by the government in curbing the disease. Also, the ministers will deliberate on the recommendations given by NCOC for the procurement of the vaccine.

As of December 1, the total active COVID-19 cases in Pakistan are 49,105. Yesterday, 40,969 tests were conducted with Sindh conducting 13,169; Punjab: 15,356; Khyber Pakhtunkhwa: 4,696; Islamabad: 6,553; Balochistan: 310; Gilgit-Baltistan: 348 and
Azad Kashmir: 537

Out of 1752 vents allocated for COVID-19 currently, 300 vents are occupied. There is no patient on the vent in GB and Balochistan.

A total of 400,482 cases have been detected so far (AJK 6933, Balochistan 17187, GB 4658, ICT 30406, KP 47370, Punjab 119578, Sindh 174350)

Total deaths in the country due to the virus now stand at 8091.
