The government has removed noted lawyer and Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaaf leader Naeem Bukhari as chairman of Pakistan Television (PTV) on the orders of Islamabad High Court.

The federal cabinet approved his removal and issued a summary in this regard.

His removal was ordered by IHC Chief Justice Athar Minallah on Thursday who heard identical petitions challenging his appointment.

Chief Justice Athar Minallah remarked during the hearing that no reason was given for granting age relaxation and sent the issue back to the federal government.

He questioned whether the government advertised the post in the light of Supreme Court of Pakistan verdict.

The IHC chief justice said that the summary was forwarded without going through verdict of the Supreme Court and Ministry of Information committed the same mistakes that were committed while appointing Ataul Haq Qasmi.

The government on November 23 appointed Naeem Bukhari as the PTV chairman for three years.

The cabinet also restored Aamer Manzoor as the managing director of the state-run PTV who was removed by the board of directors on January 1.
