The federal government has removed Mufti Muneeb-ur-Rehman as the chairman of the Ruet-e-Hilal Committee and appointed Moulana Abdul Khabeer as the new chairman of the committee.
“”In supersession of all the previous notifications regarding composition of the Central Ruet-e-Hilall Committee, the Committee is reconstituted as under with immediate effect,” stated the notification of the Religious Ministry. Dr Raghib Hussain Naeemi, Allama Muhammad Hussain Akbar, Maulana Fazlur Rahim, Dr Yaseen Zafar, Mufti Muhammad Iqbal Chishti, Dr Mufti Ali Asghar, Mufti Faisal Ahmed, Syed Ali Qarar Naqvi, Mufti Yousaf Kashmiri have been appointed as the committee’s members.
Mufti Muneeb had also been in serious opposition with Fawad Chaudhry, the Federal Minister for Science and Technology, who called the Mufti’s instruments outdated and antiquated. Mufti Muneeb Rehman served as the Ruet-e-Hilal Committee chairman for over two decades, provoking several clerics but mostly those belonging to Khyber Pakhtunkhua, who on several occasions condemned the decisions brought forward by the Committee.
