A gunman shot and killed three people and injured three others on Saturday evening at a bowling alley at Don Carter Lanes in Rockford, Illinois. Rockford is about 130 kilometers north-west of Chicago.

The suspect has been taken into custody. Rockford city police have urged people on Twitter to stay away from the area, as it was an “active situation” and officers were clearing the site.

Police Chief Dan O’Shea confirmed the death of three people in a press conference The injured have been transferred to the hospital and are being treated. Two of the injured are teenagers, he added.

He further confirmed the arrest of a 37-year-old suspect without giving motive behind the shooting.

Gun violence is a common occurrence in the United States as the federal government has failed to adopt legislation to curb the sale of lethal weapons.
