The Punjab government has directed medical superintendents of Jinnah, Services and General Hospital to operationalize the high dependency units (HDU’s) and intensive care units (ICU’s). These units will work on the same capacity as they were functioning in June 2020. The HDU in Expo Centre Lahore will also admit critical patients.

This decision comes after a rapid increase in the cases and death in the province due to COVID-19.

In the last 24 hours, 3119 people tested positive for COVID-19 while 44 people lost their lives according to the latest statistics released by the National Command and Control Centre (NCOC).

As of December 5, the total active cases in Pakistan are 52,359. Yesterday, around 41,115 tests were conducted with Sindh conducting 15,500; Punjab: 13,015; Khyber Pakhtunkhwa: 4,327; Islamabad: 6,696; Balochistan: 564; Gilgit Baltistan: 408 and Azad Kashmir: 605

Out of 1756 vents allocated for COVID-19 in the country, 337 vents are currently occupied. There is no patient on the vent in Balochistan, GB and AJK.

Around 350,305 people have recovered so far across Pakistan making it a significant count.

A total of 413,191 cases have been detected so far (AJK 7219, Balochistan 17392, GB 4708, ICT 31992, KPK 48683, Punjab 122293, Sindh 180,904)

Till now, Pakistan has conducted 5,713,341 tests. Currently, 3001 patients are being treated in 616 COVID-19 facilities in the country.

Pakistan has recorded 8,303 deaths thus far due to this deadly virus.
