Japan ‘upsets’ Germany 2-1 in yet another Qatar World Cup shocker
Japanese players celebrate their victory against Germany FIFA World Cup

In a yet another major shocking result, Japan overwhelmed Germany with a 2-1 victory in the FIFA World Cup in Qatar on Wednesday.

The latest result follows the shocking defeat of Argentina at the hands of Saudi Arabia earlier in the tournament with a same score line.

Ritsu Doan and Takuma Asano helped their side coming from behind and seal the win in the second half. Ritsu scored in the 75th and Takuma in the 83rd minute.

On their part, Germany could not net the ball in open field play despite having 26 shots on goal while nine of them were on target.

The only goal they had was from a penalty in the 10th minute by Ilkay Gundogan. Thus, Germany’s defeat had even more similarities with Argentina who too had an early lead through a penalty.

Earlier in the day, Croatia had a goalless draw against Morocco in a third such result so far in the FIFA World Cup, as they failed to score despite better ball possession.

Earlier on Tuesday, the encounters between Denmark and Tunis, and Poland and Mexico too did not produce any goals. The star Polish striker and skipper Robert Lewandowski even missed a penalty against Mexico.

In fact, Poland have the worst overall record when it comes to goalless matches in the World Cup – six out of 35 games they played in the competition history which translates into 17 percent of their total matches.

During the Wednesday’s game, Croatia enjoyed 65 percent possession their rivals. However, both sides had eight shots each at goal and two each on target. They also had a better pass accuracy – 85 percent against 78 percent of Morocco.

It was only second World Cup match in which Croatia have ever failed to score. The only other occasion was in 2006 in Germany when they had a goalless encounter against Japan.

But Morocco are much worse in this respect as they have not managed a goal in nine of the 17 matches they have played in the World Cup so far.
