Nepali climbers become the first to successfully manage to summit K2 in winter.

A group of 10 Nepali climbers called started their ascent for K2 summit in winter. Nimsdai Purja and his team summited the K2 mountain, teaming up with Mingma Gyabu Sherpa and his team and a member from Seven Summit Treks (SST), Sona Sherpa.

The whole team assembled 10m below the summit to form a group then stepped onto the summit together whilst singing the Nepalese National Anthem. 

To date, 11 attempts have been made to summit K2 in winter but all had failed

The K2 was summited today at 1700hours Pakistan Standard Time

Summiting team members include Nimsdai Purja, Mingma David Sherpa (Team Nimsdai),  Mingma Tenzi Sherpa (Team Nimsdai), Geljen Sherpa (Team Nimsdai),  Pem Chiri Sherpa (Team Nimsdai), Dawa Temba Sherpa (Team Nimsdai), Mingma Gyabu, Dawa Tenjin Sherpa (Team Mingma G), Kilu Pemba Sherpa (Team Mingma G), Sona Sherpa (SST).
