Just after casting his vote in the Senate election, Faisal Vawda submitted his resignation from the National Assembly seat in the Islamabad High Court through his lawyer. It is not clear whether he had submitted his resignation to the speaker of the National Assembly or not.

The constitution provides that a member of the National Assembly will first submit his resignation to the speaker. The speaker, after vetting the resignation, will forward it to the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP).

Faisal Vawda is facing a dual nationality case in the Islamabad High Court (IHC). Vawda’s lawyer pleaded before the court that the case has become ineffective as his client has resigned from the National Assembly. Justice Aamer Farooq is hearing the petition moved against the federal minister by Barrister Jahangir Jadoon.

Barrister Jadoon said that a person remains a member of the assembly unless the speaker accepts his resignation.

“Faisal Vawda submitted a fake oath regarding his dual nationality and, therefore, he has neither remained “Sadiq nor Ameen,” he argued.

Vawda is also contesting the Senate elections from Sindh. Last week, his nomination papers were challenged by Pakistan People’s Party’s (PPP) Qadir Khan Mandokhail but the election tribunal dismissed the petition.
