The Lahore Waste Management Company’s (LWMC) contracts with two Turkish companies will end by 31st December 2020.

Albayarak and OzPak, the two Turkish companies that currently handle Lahore’s solid waste management will be pulling out of the city as their contracts are set to expire by the end of this year. The local management has not renewed contracts to outsource the responsibility of collecting the city’s waste.

The District Government stated that the companies will continue their work till the end of the year as per the contract and after that, the LWMC will hold charge of the responsibility.

On the other hand, as a source informed thecorrespondent.pk that the contracts actually ended in December last year, but the LWMC kept extending the contract till now.

Albayarak and OzPak have started rounding up their machinery and have served notices to its staff which number around 16,000.

Areas in downtown have already started showing heaps of dirt and trash as the trashcans have not been towed in 3 days. Areas impacted by the negligence include Rang Mehal, Shah Alami Market, Bansa wala Bazar, and the areas around Mayo Hospital.
