A mob on Friday tortured a man to death in Sialkot and burnt his body. A heavy contingent of police has been dispatched to the area to control the situation.

The tragic incident occurred on Wazirabad Road in Sialkot, where allegedly the workers of private factories attacked the export manager of a factory and burnt his dead body.

Sialkot District Police Officer Umar Saeed Malik stated that the man, identified as Priyantha Kumara, was a Sri Lankan national.

Videos showing hundreds of men and young boys gathered at the site, with groups of them chanting slogans circulated on social media.

The footage shows that most of the people gathered around the burning corpse, were recording it.

Punjab Chief Minister Usman Buzdar took notice of the murder, describing it as a “very tragic incident”.

The spokesperson for Sialkot police said details will be revealed once the initial investigation is completed.

Buzdar has sought a report from the inspector general of police and ordered a high-level inquiry into the matter.

The chief minister said, “Every aspect of the incident should be investigated and a report should be submitted. Action should be taken against those who take the law into their own hands”.

Punjab Inspector General of Police Rao Sardar Ali Khan instructed the Gujranwala regional police officer to reach the location immediately.

The IGP said, “The Sialkot DPO is present on the spot. All aspects of the incident should be investigated”.

Back in 20210, a similar incident in Sialkot had shocked the country when a mob had declared two brothers dacoits and lynched them to death in the presence of police.

The incident had triggered horror across the country as cellphone footage of the heinous murders did the rounds on video-sharing sites.
