Balochistan Police has said that at least six people were killed and over 14 were wounded in a blast that targetted a pro-Palestine rally near Chaman’s Murghi Bazaar on Friday.

The rally was organised by a faction of JUI — Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-Nazryati (JUI-N) whose leader was also moved to the hospital after the attack.

The motorcycle bomb exploded as people dispersed at the end of the rally held in the city of Chaman near the Afghan border in the province of Balochistan, police chief Jafar Khan told Reuters by telephone. He added that the bombing also wounded Maulana Abdul Qadir Luni, a cleric and leader of the religious party.

However, Balochistan government spokesperson Liaquat Shahwani said the cleric remained unscathed in the attack.

He said JUI leaders Abdul Qadir Luni and Qari Mehrullah remained unharmed in the explosion. The area has been sealed and an emergency has been imposed in local hospitals to treat the wounded. Shahwani strongly condemned the attack, saying terrorists wanted to “destroy Balochistan’s peace”.
