The Sindh government has decided to close vaccination centers on June 20 due to shortage of the vaccine and reopens primary schools on June 21 after reviewing the COVID-19 situation in the province.

These decisions were taken in a meeting of the Provincial Task Force on Coronavirus, presided over by Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah and attended by provincial ministers Saeed Ghani, Azra Pechuho and Murtaza Wahab, and senior government officials and health experts.

The committee was briefed on the coronavirus situation in the province and the shortage of vaccine across the country, which has gotten serious in the last few days.

The meeting was told that so far 3,243,988 doses of vaccines have been received. Of them, 2,873,857 have been administered and only 370,141 were left. 

Keeping in view the available stock of the vaccine, the chief minister decided to close all vaccination centres only on this Sunday (June 20). 

The meeting was also informed that the province will get 1.5 million doses of Sinovac on June 21, followed by 700,000 doses of CanSino vaccine on June 23, and 400,000 doses of PakVac on June 23 while the Russian Sputnik V vaccine will be available in the last week of the current month or in the first week of July.

The chief minister was briefed that the COVID-19 positivity ratio has come down to 3.9 percent. However, it was shared with concern that the situation in Karachi (8.8 percent) and Hyderabad (4.3 percent) is still not good.

Meanwhile, it was also decided to reopen shrines, amusement parks, swimming pools and indoor gyms from June 28.

SUMMER VACATIONS: The Sindh education department has decided not to give summer vacations in educational institutions of the province.

The education department spokesperson said a decision in this regard was taken in a meeting of the steering committee on summer vacations.

He said, however, in case of high temperature, education institutions would be allowed to close.
